12South Neighborhood Association Meeting: The February association meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m., Feb. 14 at 1109 Caruthers Ave. (the home of Cole and Kim Carter). The meeting will feature guest speaker Veronica Frazier, Director of Metro Beautification, Metro Public Works Department, who will speak about neighborhood beautification. Please join us!

We are changing our newsletter format. Starting this month, every other month we will publish a short version of the newsletter, with key dates and other current news, and will publish the full, four-page version on alternate months. 2006 12South Home Tour
The 12South Neighborhood Home Tour is set for Saturday, April 22. We need volunteers, sponsors, and most importantly, HOMES to make this year’s tour an even bigger success than last year. Please contact Lee Ann Lambdin at 463-2445 if you would like to volunteer your home or your time.
Glendale Spanish Immersion Kindergarten Accepting Early Applications
Glendale Spanish Immersion Elementary School is now accepting early applications for the Spanish Kindergarten for 2006. The public Glendale program is designed to teach English-speaking children Spanish. Half of the children’s day is taught in Spanish and the other half in English. All teachers are bi-lingual and the staff includes three native speakers. The school has a new playground, full-time art, music and physical education teachers and a reading specialist. It also offers before- and after-school daycare. Visit Glendale Elementary at 800 Thompson Ave. or call 279-7970 for an appointment.

The 12South Web Site is in need of a steward. Jesse Minor, owner of Minor Jewelry, has donated his time and money to keep the existing site alive for some time. The Neighborhood Association is looking for options to take the hosting burden off of his hands. Any neighbor with Web expertise and a willingness to donate their time should contact Justin Adams at jadams@tnlaw.net.

It’s easy, it’s effective, and it’s cheap as heck. Business rates: $20 / month or $200 / year for a display ad; $10 / month / $100 / year for a three-lined classified ad. Resident rates: $5 per month for a classified ad. The deadline for the March newsletter is 5:00 p.m., Monday, Feb. 20. The 12South Neighborhood Association is a Tennessee non-profit membership corporation governed by a board of directors. The board holds neighborhood meetings each second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at locations published by newsletter and e-mail. Anyone living in or owning property or a business in the 12South Neighborhood (generally, areas adjacent to 12th Ave. South between Wedgewood Ave. and Gale Lane) may become a voting member of the Association by paying annual dues of $10 per person or $5 per person if 65 or older. The Association’s meetings, events, and e-mail list are open to everyone in the 12South Neighborhood regardless of membership.
