2006 Neighborhood Tour a Success!

Tour Book CoverThe third annual 12South Neighborhood Tour was a success by any measure. More than 300 people took the Tour, and net proceeds are expected to exceed last year's proceeds by more than 20%. The Tour's success ensures the continuation of Association programs like the monthly newsletter, twice annual neighborhood clean-ups, and Montrose-in-May and allows the Association to make invest in new programs. Also, approximately $500 was raised for children's athletic programs at Sevier Park Community Center.

This year's Tour was chaired by John Schweikert on Halcyon. Leeann Lambdin, Todd McEachern, and Tricia Frantz, all on Montrose, coordinated with tour site owners, docents and other volunteers, and sponsors and advertisers, respectively. Caroline Duley on Knox coordinated entertainment for site owners and volunteers and Wendy Stamberger on Halcyon coordinated print publications. John, Caroline, and Leeann were first time volunteers on the Tour Committee. Todd, Tricia, and Wendy are third-year veterans. The Association is indebted to each of them for their cheerful service and dedication to the 12South Neighborhood. The Association is likewise indebted to the approximately five dozen neighbors who volunteered their homes and themselves as docents and volunteers for the Tour. Thank you!

Spring Clean-Up a Success

Great American Cleanup LogoNeighbors on foot and in trucks cleaned out six alleys and streets between 12th Avenue South and Vaulx Lane, filled two dumpsters to the brim, and carried off dozens of old tires and TVs to the city dump.

Neighbors reported that alleys that had been given thorough cleanings in the 2005 Spring and Fall tours were in much better shape this time around. That's a good sign that regular neighborhood clean-ups are having a long-term effect. It appears that trashy alleys attract more trash than clean alleys. Which means every piece of junk we take out of the alley helps deter several more.

Many thanks to the neighbors who came out last Saturday and to all of the neighbors who work year-round to keep their streets and alleys clean!
