News from the Neighborhood
By Justin Adams
The 12South Neighborhood Association is pleased to announce that the following neighbors were elected by acclamation as officers or directors of the association:
President: David Thompson, Gilmore Ave.
Treasurer: Bernadette Welch, Vaulx Lane
Secretary: Justin Adams, Montrose Ave.
Directors: Caroline Duley, Knox Ave.; John Schweikert, Halcyon Ave., Todd McEachern, Montrose Ave.; Kathleen Kelly; Ken Winter, Paris Ave.

Crime was the main topic of discussion at the association’s October meeting. Sgt. Connie Tripp from the West Precinct attended and answered questions about recent crimes and historic crime trends in the neighborhood. Sgt. Tripp emphasized the need for constant vigilance by neighbors and open communication among neighbors and between the neighborhood and the police department.
To that end, Sgt. Tripp encouraged the association to seek neighborhood watch status from the police department. Neighborhood watch status will give the association easier access to information from the police department about crimes and investigations. The association is in the process of obtaining neighborhood watch status. The association will also begin tracking and publishing information about crime in the neighborhood in a more systematic fashion. Look for this information in monthly newsletters, along with tips about crime prevention.
In any event, Sgt. Tripp’s basic admonitions remain: neighbors must watch out for one another and report any suspicious activity to the association and the police department. Neighbors’ vigilance and concern for one another have and will continue to make our neighborhood safer.
